Salesforce has agreed to buy Braze, a customer messaging platform, for about $5.66 billion. If you run a small business on Salesforce, the short version is that nothing changes for you this month. The longer version is that it shows where Salesforce is steering its marketing products, and a few low-cost steps now will keep you ready.

## What was announced

On October 20, 2026, Salesforce announced a definitive agreement to acquire Braze for about $5.66 billion in enterprise value, paying [$47.50 in cash per Braze Class A share](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001676238/000095010326015850/dp254600_ex9902.htm). Braze sends personalized messages (email, push notifications, text and in-app) based on what customers actually do.

Braze has about 2,770 customers, [including Instacart and Venmo](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001676238/000095010326015850/dp254600_ex9902.htm). Those are large consumer brands, so this is not a deal aimed squarely at a 20-person company.

## When it happens

Do not expect changes soon. The deal needs Braze shareholder approval and regulatory approvals. Salesforce expects it to close in its fiscal 2028, and [PPC Land reports](https://ppc.land/salesforce-agrees-to-buy-braze-for-5-66bn-in-cash) that fiscal 2028 begins February 1, 2027, so closing is no earlier than February 2027.

## Why Salesforce wants it

According to [the announcement](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001676238/000095010326015850/dp254600_ex9902.htm), Braze is expected to strengthen Marketing Cloud's cross-channel personalization and work with Salesforce's Data 360, Customer 360 and Agentforce. In plain terms, Salesforce wants its AI agents to be able to act on customer behavior as it happens, not after a nightly report.

## What nobody has said yet

Several questions that matter to customers are open. [PPC Land notes](https://ppc.land/salesforce-agrees-to-buy-braze-for-5-66bn-in-cash) that it is unclear whether Braze will stay a separate product, merge into Marketing Cloud or become a tier inside it, and that pricing, contract terms and the roadmap for existing customers have not been shared. Braze's CEO has said the company will keep building as Braze, but that is not a product commitment.

Treat any claim about future pricing or packaging as speculation until Salesforce publishes details.

## What a small business should do now

- **Do not buy anything because of this news.** There is no product to evaluate yet.

- **Check what you pay for marketing today.** List the tools that send customer email or texts and what each costs, so you can compare when packaging is announced.

- **Fix your contact data.** Personalized messaging, with or without Braze, depends on accurate emails, consent records and customer history in Salesforce.

- **Know your renewal dates.** If a Marketing Cloud or messaging contract renews in the next year, ask your account team how this deal affects it before you sign a long term.

## The takeaway

Salesforce is investing heavily in real-time, AI-driven customer messaging. For most small teams the practical response is the same as always: keep your customer data clean and your tool costs visible, so you can say yes to new features when they are priced and ready.
