Two of the biggest CRM (customer relationship management) vendors now charge for their AI customer service agents the same way: only when the agent finishes the job. The price tags, though, look very different: $2 for Salesforce, $0.50 for HubSpot.

Before you treat that as a verdict, it helps to know what each number really buys. Here is the comparison in plain English.

## The shift: pay for results, not seats

A [September 24 MarketScale roundup](https://www.marketscale.com/industries/marketing-tech/salesforce-and-hubspot-are-taking-crm-updates-out-of-the-crm-screen) noted that both vendors have adopted outcome-based pricing for their service agents. For a small team, the appeal is easy to see: you are not paying a monthly fee for software that sits idle, and a conversation the AI fumbles should not land on your bill.

## What Salesforce charges

Salesforce's Agentforce Help Agent costs [$2 per resolution](https://www.cio.com/article/4189183/salesforce-unveils-ai-help-agent-with-pay-per-resolution-pricing.html), according to CIO. A few details from that report:

- **What counts as a resolution:** the customer's question does not need a human. If the issue is escalated to a person, or the customer says they did not get an answer, it is not billed.

- **One charge per session:** actions within a 10-minute window during a call, or a specific window in a chat, count as a single resolution regardless of how many questions the agent answers.

- **A minimum purchase:** customers must pre-purchase at least 1,000 resolutions.

Salesforce Ben [reported](https://www.salesforceben.com/huge-agentforce-pricing-shift-salesforce-introduces-pay-per-resolution/) that the pay-per-resolution model and the Help Agent were set to become generally available in July 2026.

## What HubSpot charges

HubSpot [announced](https://www.hubspot.com/company-news/hubspots-customer-agent-and-prospecting-agent-now-you-pay-when-the-task-is-complete) that its Customer Agent costs $0.50 per resolved conversation, down from $1.00 per conversation. Its Prospecting Agent costs $1.00 per lead recommended for outreach. Both agents come with a free 28-day trial and are available to Pro and Enterprise customers.

## Why the lower number is not automatically the better deal

On paper, $0.50 beats $2. In practice, a few things matter more than the sticker price:

- **"Resolution" is defined by the vendor.** Analysts at Constellation Research [raised the open questions](https://www.constellationr.com/insights/news/salesforce-takes-run-outcome-based-help-agent-pricing): what counts as the outcome, who audits it, and who bears the risk. Ask each vendor to define it in writing.

- **The agent is only as good as your data.** An agent answering from outdated help articles and messy customer records will escalate often, or worse, answer wrongly.

- **Your volume matters.** A minimum purchase of 1,000 resolutions is a real commitment if you handle a few hundred inquiries a month. Do the math on your own ticket count first.

- **The agent is one piece of the system.** The bigger decision is which CRM fits how your team sells, services and reports, and what it will cost to run alongside your other tools.

## How to decide

Start with three numbers: how many customer conversations you handle per month, what share are simple repeat questions, and what an hour of your team's time costs. Then ask each vendor for a trial on your real data. HubSpot offers one for 28 days; ask Salesforce what trial or sandbox options apply to your edition.

We work with Salesforce, so we are not neutral, and we will say plainly: for some small teams HubSpot is the simpler fit, and for others Salesforce's flexibility pays off as they grow. The pricing model is a good reason to reopen the question, not to decide it on price alone.
