What Is Agentforce Coworker — and Can Your Small Business Use It?
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff made a big announcement on May 21: Agentforce Coworker, a new AI tool that lives inside every Salesforce search bar. "It doesn't just find things — it works with you," Benioff wrote. "Agentforce now instantly taps into your CRM data, workflows, customer history, opportunities, and cases… then takes action in real-time."
That's a significant claim. But does it actually work — and is it relevant if you're running a small business? Here's what you need to know.
What Agentforce Coworker actually does
Coworker is designed to eliminate the constant tab-switching and copy-pasting that slows down sales and ops teams. Instead of hunting through screens and systems to answer a question about a customer or deal, you type it into the Salesforce search bar and Coworker pulls the answer from your CRM data, workflows, and history — and takes action on your behalf.
It works across Salesforce, Slack, Teams, and ChatGPT, so your team doesn't need to be in a specific app to use it. You can also build custom agents that run natively in Slack, Teams, and mobile — no code required for the basic setup.
The setup process is largely automated. Once you turn it on, Salesforce handles connecting your CRM data, configuring search, and provisioning the agent automatically.
Does it actually work?
Early reactions from practitioners have been unusually positive for a Salesforce beta. Andrew Russo, a well-known voice in the Salesforce community, shared his experience after testing it: "Agentforce Coworker was able to pull together and navigate our complex sales and ERP data to answer questions that just yesterday would have been 45-60 mins of swivel chairing between screens and systems to even try to figure out."
He added: "It literally was the fastest setup I've ever had for a single Salesforce product. Agentforce could've never figured out the questions that I was asking — it literally would've just given up."
That kind of real-world validation matters. Plenty of Salesforce announcements don't survive contact with actual data. This one seems to.
Who can use it right now
Here's the honest answer for small businesses: Agentforce Coworker is currently available in Beta for customers on Enterprise, Unlimited, and Agentforce 1 Editions. If you're on Salesforce Starter or Pro (the SMB-focused Suites), this feature isn't available to you yet.
That said, this is a Beta announcement — availability will expand. And if you're already on Enterprise or evaluating whether an upgrade makes sense for your team, this is one of the more compelling reasons we've seen to make the jump.
What this means for your Salesforce
Agentforce Coworker fits into a larger shift Salesforce is making: moving away from a system your team logs into and navigates, toward a system that actively works alongside them. The goal is to reduce the friction between having data in Salesforce and actually using it to make decisions.
For a small business, that friction is real. Your team doesn't have time to build custom reports or dig through five screens to answer a sales question. A tool that can do that in seconds — from a search bar — is the kind of thing that actually changes how a team uses their CRM day-to-day.
Should you act on this now?
If you're on Enterprise or Unlimited, yes — Coworker is live in Beta today and the setup is straightforward. Turn it on, test it against your real data, and see how it performs on the questions your team asks most.
If you're on Starter or Pro, keep this on your radar. The SMB Suites already include several Agentforce features at no extra cost, and Salesforce has been rolling features down to lower tiers faster than in previous cycles. Coworker will likely follow.
