Salesforce's new Hunter sales agent: what small teams should do before it ships

Salesforce has a new AI agent for outbound prospecting, and it is not available to most teams yet. Hunter, introduced at Dreamforce, is an outbound sales agent for Sales Cloud. If you sell to other businesses, it is worth understanding now, because the groundwork it needs is work you can do this month.

What Hunter does

According to DestinationCRM's report on October 16, 2026, Hunter helps sellers find accounts and contacts, personalize outreach, update opportunities, and plan follow-ups. When a step requires judgment, it shows its reasoning and asks the rep for approval.

That last point matters for a small team. The rep stays in the loop, so you are not handing your reputation to an agent that emails prospects on its own.

Where the prospect data comes from

An agent can only work with the information it can see. Hunter launches with three data partners, as listed by DestinationCRM:

  • ZoomInfo: verified company and contact data, intent signals, and news.
  • Demandbase: engagement, person and account data, buying group identification, and intent data.
  • Apollo: access to a network of 240 million contacts.

Per PPC Land, Demandbase data used inside Salesforce does not require a separate Demandbase contract. The same report notes that this does not necessarily mean no cost, and that Hunter's own pricing has not been disclosed.

What is still unknown

Before you plan a budget, here is what has not been published:

  • Availability: Hunter is in pilot. Demandbase's release says general availability is “planned later this year,” per PPC Land, with no month given.
  • Pricing and editions: Neither has been announced. It is also unclear whether the agent will be included for every Sales Cloud customer or only for those who adopt it, according to the same report.
  • Data handling: It is not stated whether any partner data is stored in Salesforce records or how long it is kept.

Treat anything you read that states a firm price or edition for Hunter as a guess until Salesforce publishes it.

How a small team can prepare now

An outbound agent is only as good as the records it starts from. None of this depends on Hunter shipping, and all of it makes your current Salesforce setup work better:

  • Write down your ideal customer. Industry, company size, location and the role you sell to. An agent cannot find “good fit” accounts if you have not defined them.
  • Clean your account and contact data. Remove duplicates, fix missing fields, and retire contacts who left their companies.
  • Decide your outreach rules. Who can be contacted, how often, and what a rep must review before anything is sent.
  • Record a baseline. Note your current response time, meetings booked per rep, and pipeline created per month, so you can tell later whether an agent helped.

Should you wait or act?

Wait on buying decisions. Act on preparation. Until pricing and editions are public, there is nothing to evaluate beyond the announcement. But the cleanup above costs little and pays off whether or not you ever turn Hunter on.
